The Illinois Speech and Theatre Association is an organization devoted to the promotion of speech and theatre activities in Illinois. Professionals, teachers, and students are eligible for membership.

PUBLICATIONS
The Newsletter is sent to all members and is published three to five times a year. It includes news, information, contest dates, contest results, event announcements, convention information and other material of general interest. Contributions for the newsletter should be sent to the Editor.

The Journal, published annually and sent to all members, includes papers of interest to speech and theatre professionals across the spectrum of educational levels. Any member may submit material for consideration. Contact the Journal Editor to request an editorial guideline sheet detailing manuscript style and form.

FORENSICS

Debate
Debate programs and coaches' meetings are frequently offered at the convention. Additional details about debate activities appear in the NEWSLETTER. In addition, SDTC also sponsors state championship level tournaments at the Class A and Class AA levels. For further information, contact the Executive Secretary or SDTC chairperson.
Individual Events-
A variety of programs and meetings are held at the annual convention, with a preview and follow-up detailed in the NEWSLETTER. For names of those who can offer assistance, contact the SCOTIE chairperson or the Executive Secretary.
In addition, the SCOTIE commission of ISTA caps off the season with its Tournament of Champions for all first place winners at qualifying tournaments.

 

DRAMA
Conference programs and NEWSLETTER articles of interest to those in the discipline of theatre are frequently available. The Theatre Education chairperson and Executive Secretary can be of additional assistance.

AWARDS
ISTA presents five awards annually:

The Edith Harrod Award for distinguished service to the Association and outstanding professional achievement.
The W. P. Sandford Presidential Award for significant contributions to speech and theatre and exceptional extended service to the Association.
The R.A. Hunsaker Outstanding Secondary School Speech Student Award Nomination for outstanding service to a student's high school speech/theatre program and to his or her community.
The L.E. Norton Outstanding Higher Education Speech Student Nominations for significant contribution to the communications field in the community or in school. These contributions may be in areas such as service, scholarly research, technical design or performance

The Jerry Mathis Outstanding Young Teacher Award for teachers in their first five years of service.
