RICHARD KING

Richard King, long time drama teacher at Granite City High School passed away on November 27, 2009. To read the obituary, please click here.

JOHN TOTH

John A. Toth passed away on August 5, 2009 after a brief illness at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Illinois.

John was born in Hammond, Indiana on September 27, 1940. He was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in Hammond, Indiana and earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. He also completed post graduate work at Indiana University and Northern Illinois University.

John was a teacher for most of his adult life having taught at Whiting (Indiana) High School, 1962-1967, Munster High School, 1967-1971, and Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois, 1971-1994. After retirement he became an Adjunct Professor of Speech at Joliet Junior College until 2004. His teaching disciplines included Library Science, Drivers Education, English, Speech, and Drama. He was involved in writing the curriculum for the Radio-Television Production Class and served as Drama Director, Head Speech Coach, and Co-Director of the Madrigal Dinner during his tenure at Proviso East. He was the former chairman of the SCOTIE commission for the Illinois Speech and Theatre Association. John also enjoyed his work at Gleneagles Country Club.

John was also a community actor portraying such roles as: Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof: Sheridan Whiteside in The Man Who Came to Dinner: King Duncan in MacBeth: Big Jule in Guys and Dolls: Dr. Lyman in Bus Stop: Mr. Babcock in Mame: and Duke in a Comedy of Errors.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Providence of Saint-Mary of the Wood: P.O. Box 3133 Shorewood, Illinois 60434-3133.

Services were held Friday, August 14, 2009 at 12:00 Noon at the Joliet Elks Club, located at 250 Southeast Frontage Road, Joliet, IL 60434-3133.
